Oh, just a little Sunday afternoon trip to Borders...

Thursday, July 21, 2011

it's a sad evening in the state of rhode island.

around 7 pm i got the news that my former boss--and the former governor--Bruce Sundlun had passed away. he'll be remembered as a once great man who was lovably (?) insane and who loved his family very, very much.

RIP, G-Sun. you'll be missed.

:::edit:::

i found this great picture of the governor from world war II, when he was in the french underground:

that's him all the way on the right; he was younger than i am, about 23 or 24. the picture comes from this article, which i suggest reading, even if you've never heard of him--it's a fantastic piece and includes some amazing stories. and i use the word "amazing" in the way it should be used (and not in the way i typically overuse it!).

Van Clemmons: Mr. Echolls, I was wondering if I could have a word?
Logan: ...Anthropomorphic. All yours, big guy.

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?

Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know

Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go? So why don't we go?

Oh, this could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know

michael j. fox on math vs. literature

"i was someone who couldn't stand absolutes. and, i couldn't--if two plus two equals four every time, what good is it? i mean, that's no fun. so, why take math? they figured that stuff out already! art, and literature--how to read this, and see it in a different way than somebody else, that i've got a shot at. or how to write this story and tell it in a way it's never been told--that, i've got a shot at. but two plus two will always be four whether i do it, or you do it, or, or anybody else does it. so...to hell with it."
